About Acrylic Art by Sharon
I always treat every item I make with love and I'm very critical of my work. I strive for perfection. My art involves the person it is being made for. If they aren't physically contributing to the piece with a swatch of fabric, a curl of hair, etc they contribute thoughtfully by telling me the story that led them to placing an order with me. I then incorporate one or both contributions to artfully create a one of a kind piece that has heart and soul. There's a meaning to every item. That can't be found on a shelf in a shopping center.
Creating Memories, One Piece at a Time
My hope for this web site is to provide a person an opportunity to relax and shop. While they look at items I offer I hope it sparks their imagination and they start thinking of different ways to thank someone that went out of their way to help them or perhaps they are about to get married and they discover that I can help them with bridal party gifts, bridal bouquet preservation, etc. I hope to give my shopper a relaxing experience as they look through items I've made.
One day a friend of mine approached me with a question in hopes I could help her. She showed me a broken sheet of plaster with what looked like a child's hand print in it. It belonged to her stepdaughter. The child's mom passed a few years ago when she was very young and this handprint was one of the only treads she had of her mom. That and a dried rose from a funeral flower arrangement. I was asked if I could do something with it. I took it all home and I discovered a handwritten area on the back It was her moms handwritting and it was the child's name and date it was made. I spent days piercing it together. I placed it all in acrylic using colored paint and canophage to hide the cracks that showed. I photocopied the handwritten note and put it in the corner so it could be seen. I then took the flower that was too crushed to use alone but I got a new flower that would have been same flower and I placed the crumpled pieces within the petals of the new flower. Then I covered it all with acrylic and made what I call a Memory Block. It turned out better than I even imagined it would. My friend was so happy with it. Her stepdaughter loved it. As a thank you gift I asked for a photo of her and her mom and I made a pendant with the photo that I digitally edited to make it look brighter and I also included another piece of her crumbled flower. She was so happy and it filled my heart with such joy. I love what I do. Making things that spark emotions has to be the best feeling ever.
My journey with acrylics began when I watched a video of someone making a tumbler. It was so pretty but was very expensive to buy one. I wanted to make them but have them where everyone can afford one if they wanted one. So I started there and as I noticed people enjoying my work, I'd increase the items I'd offer and always keeping affordability in mind.
